Wednesday Social Ride: A,B, and C, August 21th @ 6:00pm

NOTE THE 6:00PM START TIME! Well this is the first 6:00pm Wednesday ride of the summer which means two things: firstly, we should all be in better riding shape than the spring and secondly, we are keen to ride on different routes. Tonight’s route features a few hills including the Watson Col and Berg. The C group will be spared the Col unless of course they want to challenge themselves.

Bring lights, ride safely and when climbing the longer hills, try to remain in the pace line. Regroup at the top of the hills or at the next convenient location such as a stop sign.

Club TT #4 – August 20/19

The fourth and final TT of our 4 event time trial series is this week, with first rider starting at 7:00pm! The August TT tends to produce some of the fastest times, so why not come out and put the training you’ve been doing all year to the test!

For 2019: We will be using the same course as last year, on 6th Line East.

Time trials are a great way to test your fitness.  It is a race against yourself and the clock. Riders start at 1 minute intervals and the challenge is to try to catch the rider ahead of you and not to be caught by the rider behind you!  No drafting is allowed.

We use the same course for each of the 4 TT events allowing you to measure your training progression throughout the season.

The course is 16.7km long, an out-and-back route on the rolling hills of Sixth Line East just north of County Road 51 (road to Ariss)

  • maintain a steady power output and heart rate throughout the event
  • have a smooth, regular pedalling technique
  • position yourself to be extremely aerodynamic
  • discipline yourself to operate just below your anaerobic threshold until near the end of the course.

  • please exercise caution during the TT, especially at the turn around, as the roads are open and vehicles can be expected
  • please remember that while waiting for your start to not obstruct traffic

Course Record:
Men: Andy Mill           23:14.9      43.09 km/hr      August 16/18
Women: Tara MacDonald    26:55.6      37.21 km/hr      May 18/16

Meeting Location:  Start Line – 6th Line East, just north of County Road 51 (road to Ariss)
Meeting Time:  Sign-in: 6:45pm, First rider start: 7:00pm

RIDE ON…Sunday 8am A/B & C Rides

Looking at the radar map, it looks like we are in the clear for a ride. Roads should hopefully dry up and it will be a beautiful day. See you at the library!

This is the final ride before next week’s big event. Bs & Cs will stay together and do a nice 80km loop down to Kirkwall before coming up through Hespeler and then make our way back up to the Arkell church where we will say goodbye and carry on for an additional 50km. Maybe before we carry on, we can try a coffee and snack at the Union Market Square (they have good ice cream, let’s see if the coffee is any good).

Our focus will be a safe social ride. Hope to see you there!

C Ride

Thursday A/B/C | Aug 15th 6:30 pm

My apologies–I thought I had this set to publish automatically during last night’s ride. Here it is now>>We’ll head out Hume/25 SR to Dublin Line (watch for potholes!), then back via Rd 50 thru Rockwood and Eden Mills. The 8 km finishing circuit for the Hammering ‘A’s’ returns to Hume and then back over Sharkey Hill to the church in Arkell. Bring lights.

Wednesday Social Ride: A,B, and C, August 14th @ 6:30pm

Each week the route gets a little shorter… *wipes away tear from cheek*

This week will start (as per usual) from the East Branch of the Public Library (refer to the map below) at 6:30pm sharp.

It’s always a great idea to ride with lights, but especially so this time of year! By this time of the season we have ironed out the wrinkles: communication on rides has been fantastic as of late, and let’s plan to keep it that way.

Please remember the Wednesday group ride pace guidelines:
A: 28-30km/h
B: 26-28km/h
C: 24-26km/h

TIN Ride – Tuesday August 13th 6:30 PM

This is the last week before rides switch to 6:00 PM start!

Whether you’re looking for another ride during the week or training, this ride has something for all riders! And come late or leave early if you like, the repeating loop offers a lot of flexibility.

Ride begins at the Arkell United Church not the Library! See map below.

This is a fun evening of riding where ALL club members can participate and work on the elements they desire: fitness, speed, endurance or just another nice night for a ride.

Riders will be organized into appropriate groups of their choosing. Relaxed and Moderate groups will ride in a Social Paceline rotation and more Advanced groups will focus on High Intensity Interval Training. The circuit is comprised of quiet rural roads. There will be everything from a dedicated “Learn to Group Ride” wave, all the way up to Hammerfest.

Check out our TIN Ride web page for all the details. From the serious racer to the recreational rider, this is a terrific addition to your week. This ride has something for everyone. You are in for a treat!

Note Well: Please employ good hand signals to your fellow riders pointing out any and all road hazards on the route and be steady, smooth and predictable.
