Loop around Bellwood lake with good stops to refuel (Bellwood butter-tarts!) and a nice section of rail trail along the lake. Lots of options to alter the route during the ride to suite the needs of the group. We will take it easy considering how early we are in the season and how few riding days we have had this spring. Average pace on the flats will be between 26-28km/h. Good chance to refresh our bike handling skills and group riding skills.
This one will get us back in under 2 hours; ~ 60km. Lots of time to get home before dark. Note the change from Nassagaweya-Esquesing Town Line to 6th line from the last time we ran this route. If we are a large group, I will split us into a 1st group that will allow riders to be dropped and a 2nd group that will be no-drop. The focus will be on group speed which will be a function of short pulls and quick rotations. We will limit pulls to 15 seconds per side, for a total of a maximum 30 second pull. This will bring up the average speed without burning off riders.
The route is 75km from the start at the library to the finish in Arkell. The map shows it as being longer due to some duplications between Arkell and the Library at the end. This route will get us back by noon and that is when the rain is supposed to start! If the weather looks to be better than the current forecast we can make a few, in ride, changes to the route to accommodate the group’s preferences. Stop in Bellwood for food and drink.
